Expert Advice

Analysis: You can save quite a bit by looking into independent mechanics, who typically charge around $325 for the brake service instead of the $800 quote you received. It’s also a good idea to have your current rotors checked; if they’re still in good shape, replacing just the pad might be all you need. Don’t hesitate to ask your mechanic about what's truly necessary and get a second opinion if you're unsure!

As it says in the title I have a 2019 VW golf wagon which I’m getting the front and back brake pads replaced. Not going to the dealership, I want genuine parts (but if you think that doesn’t matter let me know), and the mechanic said that this car requires both the brake pads and rotors to be placed (IDK if that true or how to confirm that) Anyways, I was quoted at around $400 each for back and front brakes - is that a reasonable price? I have not actually worn down the break pads to the point they’re affecting the rotors. I would appreciate the insight, I live in a metropolitan city on the west coast if that helps.
